Mr. Malone has extensive experience in traffic safety and
transportation engineering. He has more than 20 years
of civil and transportation-engineering experience in
the private and public sectors, has completed numerous
traffic safety assessments, road safety audits and in-service
operational safety reviews.
Brian’s experience
with traffic safety has been gained from his work at
Synectics, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, where
he was manager of the Traffic Office, and while working
for the City of Hamilton. His work in traffic safety
includes not only dealing with safety issues on an individual
project basis, but also the ongoing development of state-of-the-practice
guidelines and documents. He is currently on the core
team responsible for the current development of Road
Safety Audit guidelines for the US Federal Highways Administration
(FHWA).
Brian has been qualified as an
expert witness with respect to issues of traffic safety
and traffic
operations at hearings held by the Ontario Municipal
Board and Ontario Coroner’s Office. He is regularly
called upon to provide expert opinion reports on matters
of traffic safety and traffic engineering in conjunction
with legal actions.
Brian is a member of ITE and sits
as vice-chair of the ITE Transportation Safety Council.
He regularly gives presentations on traffic safety,
having presented papers at Canadian District 7 ITE and
ITE International
Conferences as well as at the Ontario Traffic Conference
(OTC). He regularly lectures at the annual OTC Traffic
Training School and is a guest lecturer at Mohawk College,
Hamilton, Ontario.
Brian is a licensed professional
engineer in the provinces of Ontario and Saskatchewan.
He holds
the designation of Professional Traffic Operations
Engineer, granted by the Transportation Professional
Certification Board of Washington D.C.
