Synectics maintains an ongoing business relationship with TES Information Technology Limited, a leading provider of turn-key safety data management solutions.
Safety Performance Functions (SPFs) – SPFs are empirically-derived equations that predict the expected safety performance of a road segment or intersection, based on collision experience, road character and traffic volume. SPFs are used to benchmark expected safety performance amongst groups of similar locations, and to assess the relative safety of specific sites.
Synectics assists road agencies in adapting existing SPFs to their individual needs, and in developing agency-specific SPFs, as a basis for network screening.
Network Safety Screening – Road networks may be safety-screened on the basis of collision frequency and severity, collision rate, relative risk, or potential for safety improvement using SPFs.
Synectics’ approach to network safety screening goes beyond simply finding sites with potential for safety improvement. Synectics determines the likelihood of that potential being realized, in this way assisting clients in focusing their diagnosis and treatment efforts on those locations most amenable to reductions in collision frequency and severity.
