Greg Junnor, Dipl. T.

Greg Junnor, a graduate from the Civil Engineering Technology program
at Dawson College, Montreal, has a background in traffic operations
and safety analysis through Ministry of Transportation in Ontario.
With this experience, Greg developed a strong interest in the application
of human factors knowledge to improving highway safety. Having attained
the position of Senior Project Manager, Greg left the MTO in 1999
to join Synectics as Project Manager, Safety Programs. Since then,
Greg has led or participated in a broad range of significant highway
safety-oriented projects including: value engineering studies; road
safety audits; operations and safety reviews; operations and safety
policy analyses; and applied research studies.
Jeff Suggett, M.Sc.
Manager, Special Projects

Jeff graduated from University of Regina with a Master of Science
in 1999 before joining Synectics. His graduate work focussed on
weather and road safety. At Synectics, Jeff has carried out numerous
syntheses of research into a wide variety of topics including red
light running countermeasures, longer commercial vehicles, roundabouts,
freeway ramp gates, roadside delineation, raised crosswalks and
speed humps. He is a key contributing author to the FHWA Guide on
High-Volume Signalized Intersections, the Final Technical Report
for the Evaluation of the Red Light Camera Enforcement Pilot Project,
and Ontario Traffic Manual Book 8 Guide and Information Signs.

Alireza Hadayeghi, P.Eng., Ph.D. (Candidate)

Ali has over 8 years of academic and practical
experience in the fields of transportation planning, traffic engineering,
statistical modelling and road safety. Ali has been involved in
many projects that involve the development of new methodologies
for analyzing collision data. His interests are conducting
research on collision analysis methodology, new statistical methods
for modeling motor vehicle collisions such as application of Bayesian
approach, and before-and-after evaluation techniques. Through his
education and experience he has become skilful in a wide variety
of transportation software applications, including EMME/2, SAS,
GIS and other traffic engineering software. Ali is a graduate of
Ryerson Polytechnic University with a bachelor of civil engineering
and University of Toronto with a Master of Applied Science in Transportation
Engineering. Ali has had numerous papers published in peer-reviewed
journals and international conferences.

Brian Applebee, C.E.T., T.O.P.S.
Transportation Safety Analyst

Brian Applebee is a Certified Engineering Technologist and a certified
Traffic Operations Practitioner Specialist (TOPS). Brian has worked
in the transportation engineering field in both the private and
public sectors since 2002. Brian’s background includes traffic
operations analysis, transportation planning, and geometric and
functional design. Brian’s skills include transportation
operational and safety studies, expert opinion reports, traffic
and safety impact analysis, site plan review, and signage, pavement
marking and bicycle facility design.

Kaylan Edgcumbe, C.E.T.

Kaylan Edgcumbe is a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) and a graduate of the Transportation Engineering Technology program at Mohawk College. Kaylan has a strong background in transportation planning and traffic operations through her experience working in both the private and public sectors. Kaylan’s skills include operational and safety reviews, school safety studies, long-range planning reviews, area-wide neighbourhood studies, traffic impact assessments and site plan reviews. Since joining Synectics in 2003, Kaylan has developed a strong interest in traffic calming and vulnerable user safety and has participated in a number of Municipal Class Environmental Assessments for traffic calming and neighbourhood traffic management projects.

Mathew Bilodeau, Dipl. T.
Transportation Safety Technologist
Mathew Bilodeau is recent graduate of the Transportation Engineering
Technology program at Mohawk College. Mathew’s skills include
operational and safety reviews, collision and operational analysis,
and traffic impact studies. Through his educational training, combined
with his practical experience at Synectics, Mathew has become skillful
in a variety of transportation software applications including,
Synchro Version 7, Sim Traffic, HCS and AutoCAD. Mathew joined
the Synectics team in April 2008.

Cathy Stephenson

Cathy is the Receptionist for Synectics and has been with the company since 1998, shortly after it’s start-up. She assists in providing liaison services between clients and project staff. Cathy provides key clerical and project delivery support on a wide range of assignments, ensuring smooth delivery of the highest quality technical products.

Ben
Robertson, Dipl. T.
Transportation Safety Technologist

Ben Robertson is a graduate of the Transportation Engineering Technology
program at Mohawk College. Ben’s skills include conflict study
and analysis, collision and operational analysis, the use of various
hardware applications used in field investigations and a wide variety
of traffic analysis software. He provides key traffic safety assessment
and analysis services for in-service road safety reviews and road
safety audits. His experience includes projects across Ontario and
in Florida. Ben’s skills include strong capability with a
range of computer applications including Synchro v.7, Sim Traffic,
Auto CAD (versions Release 14 to 2007), various Autodesk applications,
Contribute and other engineering software. Ben joined the Synectics
team in May 2007.

Hossein Zarei, M.A.Sc.
Transportation Safety Analyst

Hossein graduated from Department of Civil Engineering of Sharif
University of Technology in 1999 and received a Master of Applied
Science degree from University of Toronto in the field of Transportation
Engineering in 2007 before joining Synectics. He has over 2 years
of practical experience in the fields of transportation planning,
traffic engineering, statistical modeling and public transit. His
graduate work focused on exploring how the built environment and
socio economic factors might relate to selecting the mode of travel.
Hossein has been involved in many parts of transportation master
plans from conducting survey to modeling stages and also geometric
design of medium-to-high volume intersections. His interests include
transportation demand modeling, Transportation Demand Management
(TDM) policies, application of Operations Research methods in Transportation
Engineering and before-and-after road safety analysis. Through
his education and experience he has become skilful in a wide variety
of transportation software applications, including EMME/2, ArcGIS,
MapInfo, HCS, VISSIM, and some other traffic engineering software
packages.

Kevin DeCoste, C.E.T.
Transportation Safety Analyst

Kevin received his Transportation
Planning Technology Diploma from Mohawk College in 1987. In 1992, he received
the honors award when he completed the OTC Traffic Engineering program
at the Ontario Police College. He is also a 1996 graduate of the GIS certificate
program at Mohawk College. Before joining Synectics, Kevin was employed as a
Traffic Engineering Technologist by the Town of Oakville and by the City of Vaughan.
His wide range of traffic engineering and safety experiences includes: roadway
safety assessments, neighbourhood traffic projects, traffic calming, roadway
efficiency assessments, site plan review, school area safety, road crash expert
opinion, traffic impact studies review, standards rationalization and neighbourhood
and CBD parking plan assessments.
